Technology

Our policy is to embrace and continually invest in new technology.

Our Excavator fleet has been undergoing a scheduled modernisation. The most notable  improvement being that the majority of our new machines have been equipped to run Trimble GPS technology. This has enabled us to work not only more accurately but also in a faster more efficient process.

In order to support this investment we also run Trimble’s Business Centre software.

Field to Finish GPS CAD software

Galtec uses state of the art, field-to-finish survey CAD software, to capture highly accurate data over large tracts of open field. Using a global network of satellites, Galtec’s receiver/transmitter is able to lock on and provide accurate data, enabling the calculation of 3 dimensional positions (latitude, longitude and altitude), which provide extremely accurate ground level locations. This information can be decoded and exported directly into CAD applications. From this data, ground modelling can begin. This is the process of turning a topographical survey with levels and heights into a 3D contoured or triangulated map, giving a visual representation of the shape of the site measured. Different planes of the site can then be viewed to see how the land currently lies.

Following this, Galtec can carry out a volumetric survey. This will calculate the number of cubic metres of land/material mass to be brought in/removed from various areas on a site in order to create a desired outcome, for example providing accurate areas of volumes for cut/fill balancing, or creating a mound or depression in the land to suit a client’s needs. This is essential for efficient movement of material which is both cost effective and environmentally acceptable. Galtec can then finally, provide precision accuracy when setting out infrastructure This is simply demonstrated in the following GPS modelling video, which shows the creation of an attenuation basin and pond.

New Plant

Galtec’s policy has always been to purchase, and maintain their own plant. Most recent investments include 13 tonne Hitachi and 25 tonne Kobelco excavators, and a number of Wacker Neuson DV100 dual view cabbed dumper trucks. These dumper trucks have 180° rotation of the entire operating and seat console ensuring a clear view in every direction, and removing the need for reversing. Galtec is one of the first ground worker companies in the Southwest to have acquired these Dual View dumpers
